Oxford Counselling

Inclusive and accessible support
Neurodivergent & LGBTQ+ affirming

Hello, my name is Jack.

I offer one-to-one therapy and peer mentoring for adults over the age of 18. I work face-to-face in Oxford as well as online.

I aim to offer a service that is accessible to all, particularly those who may have struggled to access support in the past, or have even had a negative experience. Sometimes, individuals who already feel misunderstood end up feeling not listened to, or even judged, when they access mental health services. It is therefore very important to me to provide an inclusive and affirmative experience.

My approach to counselling is integrative, meaning I am not tied to one specific approach, such as CBT. Instead, I draw on a range of therapeutic approaches to best fit your specific circumstances and goals.

Counselling provides a safe, empathetic, non-judgemental space to explore whatever is going on for you, with a qualified professional who can help to guide you through that process. What this looks like in practice is unique to each individual, but it may involve exploring the past or a specific incident, examining your relationships with others, or working to develop greater self-acceptance.

Neurodivergent and LGBTQ+ support

Neurodivergent individuals and people identifying as LGBTQ+ are more likely to experience mental health difficulties, yet often find themselves feeling misunderstood by mental health professionals. Such clients often experience inappropriate questions that are nothing to do with what brought them to therapy, or may feel their identity is seen as a problem to be fixed.

I have extensive experience providing pre- and post-diagnostic support to autistic individuals, ADHDers, and AuDHDers. All clients, neurodivergent or not, are free to move around in sessions, stim, fidget, or do whatever they need to feel comfortable. Whilst I am not fully in control of the counselling rooms that I work from, I will do my best to accommodate sensory preferences and at the very least can guarantee no ticking clocks.

I also have extensive experience supporting individuals identifying as LGBTQ+ and have a deep understanding of the issues impacting these communities, in particular trans and non-binary communities.

What is peer mentoring and who is it for?

Alongside counselling I offer peer mentoring and pre- and post-diagnostic support for individuals identifying as autistic and/or ADHD, including those without formal diagnosis. I draw on my own lived experience as well as my professional experience supporting hundreds of neurodivergent clients through my work in an autism and ADHD service. Peer mentoring might focus on topics such as:

- What does being autistic and/or ADHD mean for me?

- The pros and cons of formal diagnosis

- Exploring reasonable adjustments at work or in education

- Self-advocacy and asking for support

- Masking and burnout

- Planning, daily routines, and getting started on tasks

The cost of a single therapy or peer mentoring session is £60. Sessions last 50 minutes.

I offer concession rates for those on low incomes and students. If cost is a barrier to accessing support, please contact me to discuss a reduced fee. If I am unable to meet your requirements, I will be happy to signpost you to other low-cost services.
